DIY Sunburst Mirror Under $25

Remember the Buffet that I re-did here... Well, I finally got it in the house and decided to make a starburst mirror to hang over it.  This is like my DIY Corner and I'm pretty proud of it!

I started googling DIY Starburst Mirror and came across Thrifty Decor Chick and followed her directions EXACTLY! Find them here (mine are below).

Don't be intimidated by this project, it's really not as difficult as it looks.

Here's What you need for your Sunburst Mirror:
2 Packages Wood Shims 14" Long - Home Depot $5 per package
Round Mirror 12" Michaels $3 (with 40% Off Coupon)
2 Square pieces of Wood - Michaels $2 Each
Gorilla Glue - Home Depot $5.99
Spray Paint (I actually ended up using a different color)
Ready Nail ( I also ended up using nails and a wire to hang)
Hot Glue Gun - already owned

Begin by gluing Wood Shims to the square piece of wood.  Glue in groups of 3, 2 sticks touching at the bottom and 1 in between. Do this until you have 16 groups of 3 glued together (the image in the top right corner doesn't show all of the groups glued together, refer to Thrifty Decor Chick for a better picture.

Now flip it over and begin filling in the spaces with one shim at a time.  Add as many as necessary.

The key here is to use ALOT of hot glue, you don't want it falling apart and come crashing down off your wall.

Once all the individual shims are glued on, flip it back over and glue a second piece of square wood to the front.

Here I just have the mirror sitting on top to see what it would look like.  Now it's time to paint.

I ended up going with a teal to add some color into my dining area, everything right now is black and tan, very dull!

Once the spray paint is dry, glue on the mirror.  I used gorilla glue, but from the original tutorial she suggested to use mirror glue.  I applied a TON of gorilla glue then stuck the mirror on.  Make sure to put something heavy on top of the mirror and ensure it's on a flat surface so it doesn't slide (I made this mistake and had to pry the mirror off and redo it). Let it dry overnight.

To hang this sucker I screwed 2 nails into the back side and attached wire between.

DIY Sunburst Mirror Complete! What do ya think?
